Josie*’s Story

When Josie* was released from custody, she was moved out of area and lived in an Approved Premises in Bristol. She had limited knowledge of her new city, and was isolated, which presented a barrier to preventing reoffence.

Josie* first met her Support Worker at the Approved Premises, when the staff member was delivering a gardening session there. Having stuck up a level of rapport, Josie* enrolled at the CFO Activity Hub. She engaged with a First Aid course, arts and crafts and substance misuse support.

A key benefit for Josie* though, was wellbeing walks. Staff at the CFO Activity Hub walked participants around the local area, which helped Josie* learn about her surrounding and feel like a valued part of the community in Bristol.

Having experienced her own success at the Bristol CFO Activity Hub, she would encourage others at the Approved Premises to engage, and helped to run a gardening activity between the two agencies to help introduce others to the Hub.
She would show resilience and talked candidly about overcoming key barriers at the CFO Activity Hub, remaining abstinent and keeping a positive attitude.

Eventually Josie* would relocate but signed off by telling her Support Worker: “You are an amazing lady, you have bought so much joy into my life. I have so many happy memories of us in the garden, planting bulbs, plants, and the many laughs we had together. I will miss your company very much. I will definitely stay in touch.”
