About CFO East Midlands Community Delivery
Participants can engage with CFO across the East Midlands area at a pace which suits their rehabilitation journey, with tailored support to help overcome personal barriers. Activities and interventions available include housing, financial support and education and employment.
This practical support aims to build personal resilience, upskill participants and strengthen support networks, amongst others. All of which aims to help participants to reach a mainstream destination.
CFO Activity Hubs are available in three East Midlands locations and represent a safe, non-authoritarian space where participants can, and importantly want to engage in a range of activities.
CFO delivery in the community can take place in a CFO Activity Hub or through Provider peripatetic delivery. This may include (but is not limited to):
Addressing wider barriers to accessing mainstream opportunities (addictions, low levels of literacy/numeracy, motivation and confidence levels etc.)
Overcoming practical obstacles (obtaining ID, registration with GP/dentist, support to retain or secure a tenancy)
Access to partner delivery sites, including funded transport/travel to pop-up Hubs or community delivery sites
Practical courses (vocational, basic skills, financial literacy etc.)
Improving likelihood of securing employment (disclosure, CV creation, interview techniques, job applications, communication skills etc.)
1-2-1 support and group activities to allow participants to tackle barriers at their own pace and in a comfortable manner
Additional skills (healthy living, money management, safeguarding, wellbeing etc.)
Working through recorded sessions or workbooks with a Support Worker
Collaborative appointments with professionals in the community

Walter*’s Story
Walter* had never worked full time before and struggled due to autism and dyslexia, creating a huge barrier in his path to employment.
He had heard about the Leicester CFO Activity Hub through a friend and enrolled in the hope of building his self-esteem and gaining employment skills.
After building rapport with his Support Worker, he would be confident enough to complete an employability course, which moved him closer to his goal of achieving employment. Walter* was able to create his first ever CV and learned how to navigate job sites in order to narrow down a suitable role for himself.
Walter* was thrilled with the support he received, and shocked at how helpful the Hub was, saying: “The support was just incredible and surreal. You had time for me and were genuine in helping me. You have encouraged me to write down all the jobs which I applied for the dates I applied for them. You taught me if I do not hear back from them in 2 weeks to call and ask for an update.” This was a key way in which Walters*’s Support Worker helped overcome issues around his neurodiversity, and allowed him to feel more organised and in control of himself.
“I am just amazed in all honesty! I still cannot believe I had an actual company ring me back and get a job, like a full-time job!” he continued to say.
“I just want to thank you and spread the good work and services at the CFO Activity Hub. I feel as if my own personal community have given up but now I have found a new community and feel positive.”
Whilst CFO Activity Hubs don’t focus on employment, Walter*’s story is a great example of how they can help prepare participants for working life by providing reasonable adjustments (such as the advice around noting down dates for Walter*) and helpful routine. They tackle the barriers in the path of neurodiverse participants and empower them through understanding.
“I am really happy with the support I have received from the CFO Activity Hub. The staff are individually very helpful in different ways, everyone who works here has been able to help me with something I need.”
