About CFO South East Community Delivery
Participants can engage with CFO across the South East area at a pace which suits their rehabilitation journey, with tailored support to help overcome personal barriers. Activities and interventions available include housing, financial support and education and employment.
This practical support aims to build personal resilience, upskill participants and strengthen support networks, amongst others. All of which aims to help participants to reach a mainstream destination.
CFO Activity Hubs are available in three South East locations and represent a safe, non-authoritarian space where participants can, and importantly want to engage in a range of activities.
CFO delivery in the community can take place in a CFO Activity Hub or through Provider peripatetic delivery. This may include (but is not limited to):
Addressing wider barriers to accessing mainstream opportunities (addictions, low levels of literacy/numeracy, motivation and confidence levels etc.)
Overcoming practical obstacles (obtaining ID, registration with GP/dentist, support to retain or secure a tenancy)
Access to partner delivery sites, including funded transport/travel to pop-up Hubs or community delivery sites
Practical courses (vocational, basic skills, financial literacy etc.)
Improving likelihood of securing employment (disclosure, CV creation, interview techniques, job applications, communication skills etc.)
1-2-1 support and group activities to allow participants to tackle barriers at their own pace and in a comfortable manner
Additional skills (healthy living, money management, safeguarding, wellbeing etc.)
Working through recorded sessions or workbooks with a Support Worker
Collaborative appointments with professionals in the community

Alanah*’s Story
Alanah* was very isolated and experiencing low self-esteem. She was quickly identified as someone who would benefit from attending the CFO Activity Hub in Chatham, but she was initially withdrawn and reluctant to engage.
A Support Worker struck up a conversation with Alanah* whilst at the Probation Office, and through this conversation, she would take her first steps into the Hub. Over the next few weeks Alanah* would attend the CFO Activity Hub and be praised for her efforts in overcoming her initial anxieties. Despite not engaging directly with too many activities, she would always be welcomed by the team and warmed to the idea of taking part.
Alanah* appreciated not being pushed too hard by the staff in Chatham and enjoyed the voluntary nature in which she could engage. Opening up, Alanah* revealed that music had always been a coping mechanism for her mental health troubles, but she had given up on singing. Slowly but surely, Alanah* would partake in ‘Music with Meaning’ sessions, striking up a rapport with a small group who shared her musical passion.
Before too long Alanah* felt comfortable enough to sing at the sessions each week, growing in confidence each time, feeling better mentally and having a more positive outlook. Through this new-found self-esteem, Alanah* was even been able to re-join her local choir, helping her to feel like a valued member of the community once again.
Her Probation Officer wrote to the Chatham CFO Activity Hub personally to state how far Alanah* had progressed since their first interaction and thanked the staff for helping her achieve her first goals in the community setting.
Speaking about her experience at the CFO Activity Hub, Alanah* said: “I really didn’t think I would be singing again. I’d told myself it was stupid for me to think about singing in public as I’m not good enough. Singing here and getting support from Emma (Support Worker) and the team has really helped my confidence and my voice. I feel good when I sing.”
Alanah* will now be leading the new Hub Harmonies Choir in the Chatham CFO Activity Hub, a massive step that showcases her personal growth. She is also addressing her mental health outside of music, making use of the additional support available from the Hub to be able to engage with mainstream provisions.
“Working on the CFO3 project was a very worthwhile experience. I feel more certain about disclosure, I really am grateful for all of your help and, career aside, it has helped me a lot mentally.“
