IPP in Focus Week

Supporting the progression of those serving Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentences is a priority for HMPPS.

As part of IPP in Focus week, HMPPS CFO are proud to showcase the work done to support IPP participants. CFO have a specialist wing, the Community Living Unit (CLU), at HMP High Down for prisoners serving life and IPP sentences, including those on recall, who may benefit from a safe space with tailored programmes and additional personalised support.

The CLU has a welcoming environment and culture where participants can engage in classroom-based learning, additional family visits and contribute to the community inside and outside of HMP High Down. Through this support the CLU have produced positive outcomes, including participants sitting successful parole hearings, helping to reduce reoffending.

CFO also support participants in other custodial locations, and in the community at CFO Activity Hubs, with through-the-gate support available to ensure a smooth transition into the community.
