Research and Statistics

We at HMPPS CFO have a dedicated analysis function of statisticians, operational researchers and social researchers, with academic qualifications and years of experience working with data in the CJS. We analyse a wide range of data relating to CFO programme participants, collected by the team, service providers and existing HMPPS datasets. This data can be classed as administrative data or survey data, and can be made available as management information, statistical and social research, or economic analysis depending on the audience and requirements, from performance monitoring operational delivery, to policy development, to evaluation.
 
Publishing this data and having it in the public domain benefits not just the CFO programmes, but also a range of stakeholders both within and outside of government, including academics, charities, and commercial organisations.

To ensure that the public can have confidence and reassurance in the data we produce, and that our statistical outputs are respected, HMPPS CFO are invested in making a voluntary commitment to the Code of Practice for Statistics. To demonstrate our commitment to the three pillars of the Code of Trustworthiness,
Quality and Value (TQV) we will be engaging with the Office for Statistics Regulation and key stakeholders within MoJ and HMPPS to:
– Understand and review how our current processes demonstrate TQV.
– Voluntarily plan and implement any changes that can be made to improve TQV with an aspiration to meet the standards required of Official Statistics.
– Publish our commitment to the Code and hold ourselves accountable to this commitment.
